Raquel Gerber, Filmmaker, Sociologist and Historian started
the filming of ÔRÍ in 1977, when she used to work along with
Photographer and Director Jorge Bodanzky, at Stopsom, in São
Paulo, creating an independent sound studio for the producing
of 16mm documentaries in Brazil.
On that occasion, she co-produced, along with Director Hector
Babenco the films: O Rei da Noite (The King of Night) and Lúcio
Flávio, O Passageiro da Agonia (Lucio Flavio, The Passenger
of Agony); along with Jorge Bodanzky: Os Muckers, and along
with Orlando Senna, the full-length film, Diamante Bruto (Brute
Diamond). Since 1970, she is connected to the Cinemateca
Brasileira (The Brazilian Cinema Library) and to Paulo Emílio
Salles Gomes, who came to work with Filmmaker Glauber Rocha,
from 1973 and 1980, on a historic research, which resulted in
three books about the Cinema Novo, among them: O Mito da
Civilização Atlântica, Glauber Rocha, Cinema, Política e a
Estética do Inconsciente (thesis presented at the University of
São Paulo and at the University of Toulouse – Le Mirail, France,
in 1982, together with the laboratory” Identidades Coletivas).
