Ôrí
Head; individual element which double resides in the órun (infinite
space and supernatural); “to acquire Orí means, to be born, to make
looser from the generic material”, (material of mythic origin); this
personal relationship with the material of mythic origin is determinant
for the Orisha the individual will adore.
Orixás
Divinities, bearers and conductors of the Axé; they are related to
justice and balance, and they are distinct among themselves,
according to functions and fields of action that singularize them;
they are in the “órun”.
Palmares
Quilombo (hiding-place) of Palmares; sociopolitical organization of
African and fugitive slaves in the “Capitania” (former State, hist.) of
Pernambuco in the 16th and 17th centuries. Considered an African
Republic, in confront with the colonial power; the “Palmarinos”
(people from Palmares) used to produce goods and resisted in war,
firstly under the ruling of Ganga Zumba, and then Zumbi, considered
its greater leader, until he was destroyed by the colonial forces in 1695.
